Newsletter for Presidential Bank Customers

Good Value, Good Service

On October 6, 1995, Presidential Bank became the first bank in the United States to offer deposit accounts online. But we actually opened our doors on April 15, 1985, with the first of what would become nine branches in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. From that day forward, we’ve strived to offer good value and good service through both internet and branch banking.

FAMILYGood value is not a cliché at Presidential. We consistently offer the highest “combo rate” in the USA with our Checking PLUS and Premier Savings accounts. See our website for current rates. So enjoy the best of both worlds! You can earn high interest on both a checking and savings account because Presidential keeps costs down by combining internet efficiency with personal service. And we pass the savings to you!

Good service includes good communications. With customers hailing from Maine to Hawaii, it became clear we needed a better way to stay in touch, thus the introduction of this bi-annual newsletter. Why only twice a year? Frankly, good service also means “not too much”. We’ll try to offer interesting and useful information in a format that’s fresh and easy to read. When published, the newsletter will be delivered with paper statements, by email, and posted on our website. There will be an opt-out feature available in the email version of the newsletter.

holiday cheer

renovate

additionRenovations are not only a great investment tool to build equity in your home, but can be fun too! However, Home Equity Lines of Credit (HELOCs) can be used for much more than remodeling, such as consolidating credit card debt, covering unexpected emergencies, college expenses, or traveling on your dream vacation.

Closing Costs Waived

Pay absolutely nothing to establish your Presidential HELOC. No closing costs, no application fee, no appraisal fee, no points.† It’s that simple with a Presidential HELOC. And we have special introductory
rates available. Draw from your activated HELOC anytime. Just write a check using your complimentary set of checks!

For more information, call us at (800) 281-2771 or apply from the comfort of your home by clicking on the Home Equity Lines of Credit Line link at www.presidential.com.

† The no closing cost feature is subject to the terms and conditions of the Home Equity Line Agreement, which requires that the line must remain open for a minimum of 42 months and that the finance charges must be at least $1,000 during the period the line is open.

fund

coupleA great alternative to our HELOC is a mutual fund line of credit from FundCash®, a division of Presidential Bank. Have cash at your fingertips
and stay invested in your mutual funds. FundCash® can help with college tuition, a new kitchen or master bath, a dream vacation, or even starting your own business. Use your own FundCash® line of credit for whatever you like.**

FundCash® offers a unique product that enables you to borrow against your financial assets...keeping your investments intact and possibly avoiding capital gains taxes.‡ Another advantage of using FundCash® is to avoid having a home equity loan that puts your home at risk.

For more information, call FundCash® at 800-343-7887 or visit us online at www.fundcash.com.

** All loans subject to approval. Federal regulations prohibit the reinvestment of loan proceeds in securities. Pledged assets are subject to involuntary sale with risk of loss and possible tax effects. Retirement plans and certain fiduciary accounts are not eligible.

‡ See your tax advisor for any possible tax benefits.

momWe’ve all heard it before, “save for a rainy day.” But what about a job loss or major medical expense? Most financial experts recommend saving a minimum three months’ worth of living expenses to weather a major emergency; many say six months. This can be difficult. Below are a few simple ideas that can help you get started.

Savings Tips

Focus…
Create a budget and track your spending. Seeing where money is spent makes it easier to see where to cut. Then check your progress monthly.

Saving is like paying a bill…
Make savings a monthly bill, even if it’s only $50. Set up an automatic transfer from your checking account, or split your direct deposit between checking and savings.

A Little Goes a Long Way…Saving a small amount regularly adds up to big rewards. Depending on family size, skipping one dinner at a restaurant per week would result in perhaps $200 a month in savings. That’s $2,400 a year! Or using your office’s coffee service instead of Starbucks can add hundreds of dollars a year in savings.

Save Bonus or Refund…Put half your bonus, raise, tax refund, unexpected gift, etc. into savings. You’ll still enjoy extra cash while preparing for the future.

Don’t Stop…When loans are paid off continue paying half the same payments into savings. You won’t miss the money.

Don’t Charge…Unless you’re in the habit of paying credit card bills in full each month, resist the urge to charge, especially for things you eat or wear. Those purchases
really add up.

Celebrate!...
Treat yourself and your family when your rainy day savings goal is reached. Make the occasion something everyone can look forward to.

debit

When at the checkout line, answering the “Debit or Credit” question can be confusing. What’s the difference, anyway? The money comes out of your checking account, so what’s the big deal! Believe it or not, there are advantages to both.

A Visa® Check Card is a type of “debit” card that looks like a credit card but acts like a check because the transaction is deducted from a checking account. You may also use your VISA® Check Card at ATM machines to withdraw, deposit and transfer funds to other Presidential accounts (ATM deposits can only be made at Presidential ATMs).

Advantages when selecting CREDIT:

  • High daily limit - $1,000 for point-of-sale purchases
  • Cash withdrawal from ATMs up to $550 per day, even if daily purchase limit reached
  • Use wherever VISA® is accepted, worldwide
  • Added security because your signature is required
  • Online shopping security with required authentication of 3-digit code on back of card
  • Simplify your record-keeping—your free Presidential Internet Banking provides a detailed, real-time record of all transactions which is accessible from any internet connection in the world.
  • Pay monthly bills or set up recurring payments such as cable, phone, or loans—without worrying about paying on time

Advantages when selecting DEBIT:

  • No need to write a check; speed up checkout
  • Receive cash back when making a purchase, with total deducted from your checking account ($500 purchase limit; cash back subject to store limit or Presidential $550 ATM limit)
  • Secure with required PIN input

You must select ‘Credit’ when making purchases to qualify. One bonus entry will be given for each payment of a regular and ongoing bill made with a VISA® card during the promotion period.
